چکیده

s | 45 Methods: Gabapentin 10, 30mg/kg; diclofenac 5mg/kg(reference drug), vehicle(saline) were injected intraperitoneally before 100μl of 1% carrageenan administration into the right hind paws of the rats. Paw thickness was measured by a gauge calipers(Vernier Calipers) before (0th hour) and in every hour during 6 hours after induction of inflammation. Paw thickness of treated groups were compared with control group with Oneway ANOVA. Also paw thickness in 0th and 6th hours were compared within each group with two-way ANOVA. Gabapentin was administered orally for 10 days to evaluate gastric side effect. At the end of 10 day treatment, rats were sacrificed, gastric tissues were removed out, mucus secretion was determined spectrophotometrically. Results: There was no significant difference between 0th and 6th hours in paw thickness of all groups, except carrageenan group. Carrageenan significantly increased paw thickness in 6th hour compared to 0th hour. All doses of gabapentin and diclofenac significantly reduced paw thickness in 6th hour compared to carrageenan group. Gabapentin 10 and 30mg/kg similar to diclofenac significantly reduced mucus secretion compared to control. Conclusion: We suggest that gabapentin as an antinociceptive effective agent may also possess antiinflammatory features. Both doses of gabapentin showed antiinflammatory effect and reduced gastric mucus secretion similar to diclofenac.

[Assessment of anti-tremorogenic drugs using nicotine-induced tail-tremor model and elucidation of the mechanism].

Repeated administration of nicotine causes a tremor only in the tail (tail-tremor) of rats. The tremor is accompanied with locomotor hyperactivity without rigidity and immobility of the whole body, suggesting the involvement of the mechanism associated with the movement. The tail-tremor induced by nicotine was suppressed by nicotinic acethylcholine (nACh) receptor antagonists, but not by muscar...

Involvement of the central catecholaminergic system in nicotine-induced tail-tremor in rats.

The effect of 6-hydroxydopamine on repeated nicotine-induced tail-tremor was investigated in rats. Tail-tremor induced by nicotine (0.5 mg/kg/day, subcutaneously) became more pronounced in intensity with daily administration for 9 days. Rats pretreated with 6-hydroxydopamine (250 micrograms, intracerebroventricularly) showed almost the maximum degree of tail-tremor during the whole experimental...

Effect of adrenaline, noradrenaline, atropine, and nicotine on some types of human tremor.

Barcroft, Peterson, and Schwab (1952) and more recently Constas (1962) have shown that an intravenous infusion of adrenaline aggravates the tremor of patients with Parkinsonism. This observation raises two interesting questions. First, what are the effects on tremor of other drugs which act upon the autonomic nervous system? An answer to this question might throw some further light upon the pha...

Ascorbic acid inhibits nicotine-induced behavioral sensitization in male mice

Repeated administration of nicotine causes incentive and behavioral sensitization in animals. Ascorbic acid administration inhibits some effects of nicotine. In the present study, the effect of ascorbic acid administration on nicotine-induced behavioral sensitization in Male Swiss-Webster mice (20-25 g) was investigated. Animals were injected with nicotine (0.25 mg/kg, i.p.) once daily for seve...

Effect of Crocus sativus extracts and its active constituent safranal on the harmaline-induced tremor in mice

Objective(s): Due to unsatisfactory response or intolerable side effects of current drugs, treatment of essential tremor remains inadequate. Thus, we aimed to investigate the protective and therapeutic effects of aqueous and ethanolic extracts of Crocus sativus (saffron), and its active consistent, safranal, on the harmaline-induced tremor in mice. Materials and Methods: To induce tremor, harma...
